Dear Parents,I understand that you may be keen to know if the children are required to draw models to solve story sums in the exam.
For topical tests, the school requires the children to do so for questions which allow them to draw either a part-whole model or a comparison model.
In a formal assessment eg SA 1, for every story sum, the children are given marks for the following:
*number sentence
*workings
*final answer
Drawing models is a way of helping children to consolidate the given information in a pictoral form. Some children may find that easy and helpful while others may not have developed full competency in doing so yet.
The school encourages children to use model drawing as an alternative to help them solve story sums or to check their final answers. It is especially useful when the children need to solve multiple-step story sums in the upper primary.
