Dear Parents,
Last week, the children had a fun time during the P2 Math Hands-on-Mania. In English, we have a smiliar concept; Learning Centres. LC gives pupils the opportunity to learn independently and with their peers. They also make use of the English language in terms of listening, reading, writing and speaking.
There are three stations in Learning Centres namely the Listening Centre, Reading Centre and Word Study Centre. At the Listening Centre, pupils listen to a similar/new story and complete a follow-up worksheet. At the Reading Centre, pupils choose to read story books from a variety of genres. There is also a follow-up worksheet to be completed. At the Word Study Centre, pupils play games using their word cards. The words on these cards may be copied from the class stories or the Grammar Handbook.
The pupils are divided into three groups of ten. Each group is given fifteen minutes at each station. There, the pupils read the given instructions and carry out the tasks accordingly. When the bell rings, the group moves from one station to the other according to the movement chart. At any one time, the teacher is stationed at one centre to assist the pupils. Pupils at the other two centres are not allowed to disturb the teacher.
